Toxocara: Imminent repulsion (suffice to prevent)
06/08/07 || Kampfar
Toxocara is such a bad name for a band that I have no words. It’s the name of a fucking dog parasite or something. No wonder no one has ever heard about you guys before.
This Dutch act seems to be alive and forgotten, but before they vanish even further into obscurity I’d like to pull this half-dead rabbit out of my hat to inform you about a bunch of fucknuts worthy your death metal attention. To further increase your interest, I find it necessary to add that they have a chick on bass. One I could fuck for some hours, no doubt, but I’m not too sure I could beat her bodyguards. With a shotgun, of course, but why would I slay a prima band? Pussy ain’t that good.
If this had been the 90’s, I would have labeled “Imminent repulsion” as brutal death metal. Nowadays it is only semi so. It’s heavy on the blasts, but blind rage is not the state that these songs were composed in. Yes, I do use the word compose, and that is because each and every song on this platter are thought through and rehearsed. In fact the whole package sounds splendid, with punch and oomph in spades. It has loads of very good riffs and solos, ditto vocals – meaty as Argentinean beef I’d say –, and I’ve could’ve continued. But first and foremost we have a focused entity set on creating something close to death metal brilliance, knitting all of this into a nice fucking sweater.
The way I found this gangbang can be compared to the process of washing out gold from the mould of a river. You know, patiently skimming shit away to filter out the shiny bits. Sadly, “Imminent repulsion” is one of the few unanimously nice surprises I’ve encountered this year. Even sadder is the fact that it got released in 2005.
(Since I wrote this I’ve found some good shit released in the year of suck, 2007. About fucking time)
Art is not a proper word to use on the mishmash making up the cover, but they get minor points for using something that’s meant to resemble blood. And that’s about it. It tells me squat, and, as far as I’m concerned, has nothing to do with the album title whatsoever. This band is downright begging people not to buy this album.
For us who’s been in the game for an extended period of time, “Imminent repulsion” holds few to none surprises. To be frank, their music is about as groundbreaking as a Norwegian earthquake, but fortunately it never sounds like they sat down with a bunch of stolen riffs, devoid of inspiration, and tried to make the best out of it.
8 out of 10 bands from the Netherlands have shitty names.
